New courses

A number of courses are kicking off over the next couple of months. Here's a quick taste to whet your appetite.

Alpha - Want to know more about Christianity? Want to ask those tough questions such as: why does God allow suffering? Then sign up for Alpha. It is a 10-week course with a relaxed approach. Watch a DVD, chat and ask questions, make friends. Starts Monday 28th September (evening) and Friday 2nd October (day time)

Freedom in Christ - Whether you've been a Christian for 40 minutes or 40 years, there is sure to be something to learn on this course. It will help you really understand who you are in Christ and can help to deal with past hurts and disappoints so you can enjoy real freedom as a Christian. Richard Wightman highly recommends this course (he learnt four new things!) so if you haven't done it yet, do seriously consider signing up. Starts Tuesday 8th September.

WordPlus - If you want to get stuck into the Bible and learn more about how Christianity has journeyed from a handful of followers of Christ to today's mega-churches then this is the course for you. You can do the whole course or dip in and out, doing one module at a time. This year the focus will be on the New Testament and the future. Starts Friday 9th October.

Do consider signing up for one of these great courses. Contact the office for more details.

New truck for The Eagle Project

We are pleased to report that £12,500 was raised to provide George and Cally Malhagaes with a much-needed truck out in Sao Paulo in Brazil. This will really help with their work amongst the children and young people living on the streets.

Many thanks to everyone who supported this purchase.

Making friends in clusters

At the recent prayer and fasting evenings, the idea of clusters was introduced. Do these have something to do with breakfast cereals? No, not in this context!

Clusters are groups of two or three cells that choose to meet together on a regular basis to build friendships, worship together, study God's Word and encourage one another. Cell groups are, of course, also great for this, but there is a limit to how large a group meeting in a house can grow. Clusters enable cell groups to multiply while still staying connected, and will also help groups that have a shared vision to work together. For example, a cluster may have a particular vision to reach out to others in a particular way. Think parties!

Clusters will also provide people with more opportunities to develop teaching and spiritual gifts in a slightly larger environment, which is perhaps not as daunting as the size of a Sunday morning celebration.

There will be no rush to introduce clusters. The idea is that they will develop naturally as cell groups get larger. Some cell groups may also choose to not be part of a cluster, which is fine too. The plan is also to change the name of cell groups to small groups (since that is what they are!)

Thoughts? Questions? Please do talk to your cell group leaders about this new idea.
